Emergency Refrigerators

SunDanzer direct current (DC) refrigerators are specifically designed for high efficiency and low energy consumption to allow refrigeration to operate on the smallest possible energy input from a solar energy system, micro-turbine, wind generator, fuel cell or battery backup.

Note that you don't have to have a renewable energy source to provide a reliable power source.  A large 12 volt marine battery (or two or three) kept changed by a trickle charger (with charge controller) plugged in to an AC outlet will provide a reliable reserve of power to run a SunDanzer for several days or more depending on the ambient temperature and the amp-hour capacity of the batteries.

SunDanzer also has a 115 VAC power supply option.

The larger SunDanzer models DCR165 and DCR225 have greater storage capacity but also require more power to keep them running, which means either more battery storage or a shorter time period available for emergency backup.

Your batteries can be charged from your car or truck alternator (not the best idea but better than not having freezer backup) or from a generator, if you have one.  Either way, these highly energy efficient units will use much less power than your conventional household refrigerator, which will take a load off your generator.

A note about freezers versus refrigerators: it typically takes 3 to 4 times as much energy to continuously operate a freezer versus a refrigerator.  Thus, from a total system investment perspective, the best return on investment is to purchase the smallest freezer that will meet your needs.  Situating a solar freezer in a location with the lowest ambient temperature environment also makes a significant difference in the size of the solar system needed for continuous operation, either air conditioned space or in a cellar or basement.
