Practical Solar Energy Solutions

The Sunshine Works website is a creation in progress and we hope to have lots of useful solar applications information for you online by the middle of September.

We are using solar energy at www.nealcreekfarm.com to power the off-grid Sunshine Cottage and the barn for 12 volt lights, fans and water pumps for pumping irrigation water from Neal Creek.  The applications are practical and cost effective.

We will be featuring portable and emergency backup power systems from Innergy, charge controllers and low voltage DC energy efficient lighting from Phocos, flexible solar panels from Global Solar and much more.

Simple solar power systems are ideal as a home emergency power supply.  Based on our experience using small systems of less than 100 watts, we would never be without a backup for storms and power outages.  You can have lights, fans, can charge cell phones and other battery operated devices and even have refrigeration with high efficiency solar refrigerators and freezers like SunDanzer.

Pumping water with solar power is cost effective and practical if you choose the right pumps and power supply.  We have been pumping close to 1,000 gallons in three hours using 45 watts of solar, a deep draw marine battery and simple charge controller for a lower initial investment than what it would take to get grid power to the barn.  Garden irrigation, watering livestock and solar electric fencing are all practical uses of a well designed simple system.
