Solar Fans
Vari-Cyclone Ceiling Fans Indoor Outdoor 12 - 24 Volt DC

If you are looking for the world's most energy efficient ceiling fans, look no further.  The Vari-Cyclone’s 60 inch diameter blades, designed by the Florida Solar Energy Center in cooperation with a major fan manufacturer, use “Gossamer Wind Technology”.

Vari-Cyclone is the only low voltage DC fan allowed to use these revolutionary new fan blades. The Gossamer Wind Technology blades allow the fan to produce up to 40% more air flow with no increase in power consumption, making the Vari-Cyclone the most energy
efficient DC powered ceiling fans available.

Besides the Gossamer Wind Technology blades, the energy efficiency of the Vari-Cyclone fan results from a permanent magnet, TENV (totally enclosed non-ventilated) motor with long life brushes.

The Vari-Cyclone draws 0.5 amps @ 12 VDC (only 6 watts!) and 0.78 amps at 24 VDC. At 12 VDC the 3-blade fan will turn at approximately 102 rpm moving 1,476 cubic feet of air per minute when mounted at least 8 feet above the floor in an open room. At 24 VDC the 3-blade fan will turn at approximately 138 rpm moving 3,925 cubic feet of air per minute when mounted at least 8 feet above the floor in an open room.

If you are looking for a more conventional look in a ceiling fan, look at our Vari-Fan page.

Why You Need Speed Control

For maximum efficiency use the optional Speed Control in conjunction with the Vari-Cyclone DC Powered Ceiling Fans. The Speed Control makes clockwise and counter-clockwise rotation possible.  Without the Speed Control the fans operate at one speed determined by the input voltage.

The Speed Control outputs an adjustable 12 to 30 volts DC from an input of 11 to 24 volts DC. It has a voltage control potentiometer with an on - off switch and an output voltage reverse switch to reverse the fan's direction. It is overload protected by input and output self resetting fuses. This unit will fit in a single gang electrical box and has a white cover plate.  We highly recommend this option.  It can be easily retrofitted to an existing Vari-Cyclone fan installation.

"Hi Ron, I installed the Vari-Cyclone fans on our main veranda and we are thrilled with how well they work.  I look forward to ordering 2 more fans later in the year."

Please contact us for pricing.  We usually have both models and the Speed Control in stock for immediate delivery.

We use the 3-Blade Vari-Cyclone fan at www.nealcreekfarm.com and absolutely love it.  At slower speeds the fan is near silent and if you want to really move some air on a warm day or evening, the volume of air flow at high speed is amazing.  You can literally blow the mosquitoes away when sitting under the fan.  And, it can also blow the skin off the rice pudding.  See a humorous Australian solar ceiling fan case study about the VC-3.

We have owned lots of ceiling fans including some large AC units, and none of them move as much air as Vari-Cyclone.  The amazing thing is how little energy they use!
