Solar Water Purification
Portable Systems for Emergency Disaster Response
and Remote Locations

Clean drinking water is one of the first requirements for sustaining human life and health and is especially critical in the case of natural disasters that disrupt local water supplies.

Solar WaterMaker Model WM-Solar2500-UF solar powered ultrafiltration system is designed to bring clean drinking water where it is needed as fast as you can get to the disaster relief site to provide humanitarian assistance.

The complete self-contained system including a 220 watt foldable solar panel array packs in an optional wheeled crush and weatherproof case.  The total weight is about 107 pounds.  The system without the case weighs 60 pounds.

The sturdy stainless steel frame is bolted to a lightweight fiberglass base giving the system exceptional portability. When packaged in the rolling Pelican Case, individual systems may be checked on most airlines; or, they can ship immediately as air freight.

The WaterMaker Solar2500 will produce up to 2,500 gallons per day of ultra filtered clean drinking water based on at rate of 1.7 gallons per minute over 24 hours.  Solar power can be assisted with or integrated with the use of 12 or 24 volt batteries.

The system uses a thin-wall ultrafiltration membrane which removes 99.9999% of bacteria, viruses and other waterborne pathogens.  This remarkable technology is the lowest cost per gallon method of producing clean drinking water and does not require high energy inputs needed by ultraviolet radiation or reverse osmosis.  The WaterMaker Solar2500 has only one moving part: the solar powered pump.

See a PowerPoint slide show about the features and benefits of the WaterMaker Solar2500.

Foldable 220 Watt Solar Array

Typical Deployment: The solar panel is connected to the pump in the
water source which can be a well, tank, stream or pond. The pump moves
the water through the prefilter, ultrafiltration membrane and postfilter. The
white hose and container represent clean drinking water.  Produce up to 2,500
gallons per day.  Only one moving part: the water pump.

Benefits for Emergency Response and Humanitarian Aid

  • The energy source is sunshine.

  • No generators, no fuel.

  • No heavy trucks needed for transport.

  • Can be air lifted in small planes or helicopters.

  • Multiple systems can be deployed at dispersed locations minimizing the need for refugee migration and centralization.

  • Can be redeployed quickly as needed.

  • Inexpensive to transport compared to larger water purification system alternatives.

  • Bottled water needs minimized.

  • Transport can deliver more medical supplies, food and other emergency materials.

  • Can be set up and operating with local operators trained in less than 30 minutes.

  • See a PowerPoint slide show about the differences in methods of water purification.
